When René Laporte started Domaine Laporte, he called the entire hillside "Le Rochoy" and even labeled wines "Domaine du Rochoy monopole." However, the Napoleonic cadastre system shows that while Le Rochoy is indeed a verified lieu-dit on this hillside, it's not the only one. The current Rochoy wine actually comes from two lieu-dits: Le Rochoy and Les Ratilleries.

The young estate of Domaine du Chancelier, run by Elsa & Cédric Ehrhart, is deeply connected to the tradition and history that surrounds it. This Beaune-based property practices organic farming and the fully refurbished winery is gravity fed and prioritizes minimal intervention. From vineyard to cellar to bottle, the entire process at Domaine du Chancelier is meticulous and precise, as Elsa and Cédric leave nothing to chance. The result – absolutely stunning Burgundies that leave no question that a star estate has been born.

"My favorite wine to drink right now is Niepoort’s Bairrada Tinto Lagar de Baixo; it is a perfect wine heading into the holidays. 100% Baga, the Lagar de Baixo is fresh and crunchy with bright acid and beautiful aromatics; this wine is so lovable! Baga is notably versatile and in my opinion, one of Portugal’s next great grapes. If you love Gamay, Pinot Noir, or Grenache, you should definitely be exploring this wine."

"Like the rest of the world, I would drink Burgundy every day if I could. Given the limited availability & soaring prices of Burgundy’s riches, I am so thankful for this stunning (and oh-so-reasonable!) bottle of Domaine Guillot-Broux Mâcon-Cruzille Rouge Beaumont. This organic single-vineyard Gamay from the Mâconnais certainly punches above its weight class, as its balance, intensity, and minerality suggest it could be from Burgundy’s more northerly reaches. It’s the ideal bottle for this time of year, with its crunchy red fruit, pepper & warm spice notes that are perfect for the Thanksgiving table."

One of our most sought-after producers is an individualist in Châteauneuf-du-Pape. At Château Rayas, Emmanuel Reynaud makes Grenache-focused wines from some of the oldest vines in the region planted on sandy soil (no galets here) that is surrounded by forest on all sides. The winemaking here is decidedly traditional, entirely free from modern interventions, but from this unassuming cellar comes weighty, aromatic, complex, and savory bottlings that are among the most well-regarded of the appellation.
